Virat Kohli's Test retirement is still a very debatable topic with former cricketers still trying to fathom the call. Kohli announced his Test retirement last month just ahead of the Test series against England.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee then announced Shubman Gill as the new Indian Test skipper after both Kohli and Rohit announced their Test retirements.
That the senior players took the call just before the England Test series was what surprised them even more. The management are also seeking replacements for the senior players from the squad that they announced last month.
Khelne Ko To Main Bhi Khel Sakta Hoon - Harbhajan On Kohli's Retirement
Now, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has joined the list of players who have expressed their opinion on Virat Kohli's retirement. He said that Kohli could have played a lot longer, while adding that it was his personal decision.
“Yeh toh unka personal decision hain, isme main kya keh sakta hoon? Dum-kham toh bande mein bahut hai. Wo lambe samay tak khel sakte hain. Khelne ko toh main bhi khel sakta hoon ("It's his personal decision. What can I say? I think Kohli can still play for a longer period of time. I can also play)," the cricketer-turned-commentator was quoted as saying by Southlive.
Now with Kohli retired from Test cricket, the selectors are seeing Karun Nair as his replacement at number four. Nair who scored a double century in the warm-up match against England Lions, reacted on his recall to Test cricket.
"Feels really special," "[I'm] Very grateful and fortunate to be able to get this opportunity again. Looking forward to grabbing this opportunity with both hands" Nair told BCCI.tv.

Agarkar Backs Nair To Come Good
Meanwhile, Agarkar, as the chief of the selection committee, chose Nair ahead of Sarfaraz Khan in India's main Test squad for the series. Sarfaraz also played a good hand along with Nair in the first warm-up game against England Lions. Agarkar explained the rationale behind going ahead with Nair instead of Sarfaraz.
“Sometimes you just have to make good decisions. Sarfaraz, I know he got a 100 in the first Test (against New Zealand) and then didn't get runs. Sometimes these are decisions the team management takes. At the moment, Karun has scored heaps of runs in domestic, has played a bit of Test cricket, played a bit of county cricket. With Virat not there, clearly we're lacking a bit of experience. We felt his experience could help" Agarkar said in the press conference after naming India's squad for England series.
