The IPL 2025 has been postponed for a week, said the BCCI in a statement on Friday, May 9. The update came at around 2:40 PM IST with the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
The BCCI, in a statement earlier today, confirmed that the IPL 2025 season has been postponed by a week, given the sequence of events that panned out in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, as per reports, all IPL franchises have started disbanding their players and the support staff, especially the overseas players. The players have started deboarding towards their homes with the recent update on the postponement of IPL 2025.

Devajit Saikia, Arun Dhumal Key Decision-Makers In IPL Postponement Decision
Previously, the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was called off due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. The BCCI, after a meeting with the top officials, including secretary Devajit Saikia and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, decided to postpone the season as of now after getting directives from the government. Saikia and Dhumal immediately got in touch with the stakeholders, including the franchises and broadcasters, to let them know about the latest development.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders," Saikia said in a press release.
The BCCI kept the safety and well-being of its players as its top priority. Meanwhile, ESPN Cricinfo reported that the players have started making a move back home with the latest development. As many as 62 overseas players were signed up by the 10 teams in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Players Doing Well, But There Is Concern - IPL Franchise Official
However, the players understandably have panicked given the recent scenario and are anxiously waiting to go back home. The BCCI and the IPL franchise have ensured maximum safety and security for their players with them returning homewards.
"The players are doing well but of course, there is concern among them after seeing all that has happened," an IPL team official told PTI when asked about the foreign players' state of mind.
