The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is seeking, with optimism, the government's approval before resumption plans for the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. The T20 tournament came to a halt after the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan after the former's precision strikes in 'Operation Sindoor' at the latter's terrorist sites and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
However, with both Asian countries agreeing to a ceasefire, there is a high probability of IPL 2025 resuming by May 16 or 17 if the government approves. Speaking to Hindustan Times, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the board is closely assessing the 'evolving situation' and will be speaking to 10 franchise stakeholders before deciding to restart the 18th edition of the T20 League.

"The BCCI suspended the IPL on Friday for a period of seven days, and today, we are on the third day with five more days left. The BCCI is closely monitoring the evolving situation and developments, and will take a call on IPL resumption after consulting all stakeholders of IPL and the concerned Government authorities," Saikia said.

The most pivotal factor for IPL 2025 resumption is the nod of the Government of India, further steps will only be taken if the necessary permissions are given.
"In the next days, we will begin consultations with the franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and the state associations slated to host the remaining matches before crystallizing a decision on the league's resumption," said Saikia.
"Given the importance of IPL at this juncture, it will also be prudent and necessary to take the nod of the Government of India before finalizing the time for its restart. BCCI will duly announce the date of IPL restart once the whole process is over in due course of time," he added.

IPL restart likely on May 15-16
The board officials have not officially confirmed the resumption of the IPL 2025 season, but if all goes according to plan, then IPL 2025 will restart on May 15 or 16. Also, the T20 league might go ahead with only a few venues. 17 matches are yet to be played in the ongoing season. The tournament final might be delayed due to foreign players traveling back home, and bringing them again will at least take five to six days.
