The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) contest at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday, May 7, was disrupted due to a major bomb threat, which was confirmed by CAB President Snehashish Ganguly.
The threat triggered a security alert all around the stadium, with the Kolkata Police force summoned into action. Though there was no major mishap during the match, Ganguly confirmed that the mail was received in CAB's official email inbox and originated from an unknown ID.
The threat comes on the back of the Indian Army's successful Operation Sindoor Mission that destroyed the hideouts of Pakistan's militant groups. It was a revenge for the loss of 26 innocent people in the Pahalgam attack. The Indian Army successfully destroyed nine targets in a 30-minute operation. Four of these targets were in Pakistan--specifically in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya--while five were in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

"The mail was detected from an unknown ID in CAB's official email during the match. The police are investigating the matter while security at Eden Gardens has been beefed up," Ganguly said.
KKR On The Brink Of Elimination After Loss To CSK
Meanwhile, the KKR vs CSK match was a closely fought contest with the Super Kings beating the Knight Riders by two wickets. It was CSK's first win in IPL 2025 in three weeks. Meanwhile, the loss has dented KKR's playoff hopes and brought them close to elimination.
Chasing 180 runs to win, KKR had reduced CSK to 60 runs for five wickets inside the powerplay. Dewald Brevis' counterattacking half-century (52 runs off 25 balls) brought Chennai back into the contest. Shivam Dube (45 runs off 40 balls) and MS Dhoni (17* runs off 18 balls) then took CSK over the line with two balls remaining.
The loss keeps KKR on 11 points on the IPL 2025 points table when they had a chance to get to 13 and above DC to the fifth position. They can get to a maximum of 15 points if they win their last two games, which might not be enough to take them to the playoffs.
