IPL 2025: Navjot Singh Sidhu Urges Rishabh Pant to Return to Basics to Regain Form

Rishabh Pant IPL 2025

Lucknow Super Giants Captain Rishabh Pant has only scored 128 runs in 11 matches during the ongoing season, with just one fifty to his name. His struggles are evident, and former Indian batter Navjot Singh Sidhu believes Pant needs to return to the basics to regain his form.

Sidhu identified Pant’s shot selection as a significant weakness, noting his inability to build innings even when he plays some good shots. He remarked that the pressure to score runs when his team is in trouble is also affecting Pant’s performance. "The problem with Rishabh Pant is his shot selection. You can't always hit your way out of trouble,"

JioStar expert Sidhu said during a panel discussion. "Perhaps the pressure of his own reputation is weighing him down and preventing him from relaxing. His frustration is evident. As captain, he often loses his cool, which gives the opposition an advantage."

Sidhu then compared Pant’s situation to that of MS Dhoni, highlighting how the former Indian captain managed pressure during critical situations while maintaining consistent performance. He urged Pant to draw inspiration from his idol.

"Look at Dhoni—calm and composed, giving nothing away. Pant needs to adjust his mindset, especially regarding shot selection. He must return to the basics," Sidhu advised.

Currently, the Lucknow Super Giants are in 7th position on the points table with 12 points, and they need to win all their remaining matches to qualify for the playoffs. However, their poor run rate is likely to affect their chances. Unfortunately, today’s match against RCB has been suspended, and the IPL 2025 has been indefinitely postponed due to the India-Pakistan conflict.
