IPL 2025: Rain Has the Final Say as SRH and DC Share Points at Uppal Stadium

SRH vs DC called off due to rain

Match 55 of the Indian Premier League 2025 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals was called off due to rain, resulting in both teams sharing the honors at Uppal Stadium.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had the upper hand in the match after the first innings, having restricted Delhi Capitals to a subpar total of 133/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

It was a clinical display from the SRH bowlers, with captain Pat Cummins leading from the front. He dismissed the top three batters—Karun Nair, Faf du Plessis, and Ishan Porel—cheaply with his impressive deliveries at the start of the innings. Delhi Capitals were reduced to a precarious 45/5 within the first 10 overs.

However, the duo of Tristan Stubbs and Vipraj Nigam steadied the innings, and Ashutosh Sharma’s valuable knock of 42 runs off 24 balls helped the team reach a 133/7 runs total worth fighting for, given the slower nature of the pitch.

As Sunrisers Hyderabad prepared for the chase, unexpected heavy rain began to pour down in Hyderabad, which had not been forecasted. The downpour intensified over time, leading to covers being placed on the field.

After 1 hour and 30 minutes of heavy rain, the downpour slowed, but the outfield had already accumulated puddles of water. Despite the efforts of the super sopper, the ground was wetter than anticipated. After several inspections, the match was officially called off, with handshakes exchanged between the captains.

As a result, Sunrisers Hyderabad became the third team to be eliminated from the tournament. It was a disappointing end for last year’s runners-up, as their powerful squad struggled with inconsistency throughout the season, failing to meet expectations.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will receive one point despite looking likely to lose, with a target of 134 runs in 20 overs. They have three matches remaining, and winning those could potentially take their points tally to 17. Stay tuned as Mumbai Indians take on Gujarat Titans in the next game at Wankhede Stadium, intensifying the race for the playoffs.
