In a big relief for Indian cricket fans, Shubman Gill has recovered from flu after missing North Zone’s Duleep Trophy quarterfinal against East Zone. He was expected to be named captain for the side but could not play due to illness.
Medical tests confirmed there was no serious problem. As per The Times of India, Gill will join the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru this week for fitness assessment before the Asia Cup 2025.
Shubman Gill has been named India’s vice-captain for the tournament. He is expected to open with Abhishek Sharma. The 25-year-old is in the form of his life and recently scored 754 runs in five Tests in England.

As per report by TOI, Gill will train at the CoE in Bengaluru where the BCCI has called players for routine fitness checks. The facility is being used to monitor workloads and ensure players are match-ready before the tournament.
Gill’s recovery is a huge positive for India. He is expected to start in the playing XI and his unavailability would have forced team management to make changes to their first-choice combination.
Notably, India will open their Asia Cup campaign with league games against the UAE, Pakistan and Oman scheduled in Dubai on September 10, 14 and 19 respectively.
Other Players Training at the CoE
The CoE in Bengaluru has become the training base for Indian players ahead of the Asia Cup. Several Indian cricketers are already at the CoE working on their fitness. Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and B Sai Sudharsan are going through core strengthening drills. Fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj is also expected to join the camp shortly.
There are injury updates on a few others. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has had the plaster removed from his left foot and will soon start rehabilitation work in Bengaluru. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is yet to recover fully from the injury he picked up during the England tour. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has cleared his fitness tests and has started training separately in Baroda.
