The Pakistan Cricket Board, led by Mohsin Naqvi, has called the board members for an urgent meeting regarding the senior men’s team ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. The meeting reportedly lasted nearly 3 hours, as the problems affecting the players have been said to be underlined and are in the process of being sorted by the board, as they expect results in the continental cup.

Pakistan Cricket has been in turmoil for quite some time since the 2023 World Cup in India. After a group stage exit in that tournament, the team faced several backlashes regarding the results, which led to a change in management, leadership, and even board members being replaced. However, this didn’t stop there, as the board has been constantly changing coaches and captains in search of results.

Leadership Chaos and Trophy Drought Plague Pakistan Cricket

The constant change took a toll on the players, who were unable to perform well on the field, resulting in a string of losses in matches and series. Since winning the 2017 Champions Trophy, Pakistan have never won an ICC trophy. They only once managed to reach the final of an ICC tournament in the T20 World Cup 2022, where they finished as runners-up.

Since then, they have failed to reach the knockouts of any marquee tournament, including the Champions Trophy 2025, which they hosted and failed to progress beyond the group stages.

PCB Meeting Targets Team Stability and Bilateral Series Structure

As per reports, a few alarming issues were discussed in the 3-hour meeting, particularly regarding the team’s poor outing in the recent Bangladesh tour, where they lost the series 2-1. The meeting also addressed the need for stable management, as the board has changed chairmen nearly four times since 2021 — from Ramiz Raja to Mohsin Naqvi, who is currently serving in the role.

Another point discussed in the meeting is said to be the PCB’s policy of restricting bilateral series to two matches. However, a decision was reportedly made to revert to the traditional format: three Tests, three ODIs, and as many T20I matches in a series.
