India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma shared a light moment with a fan in Mumbai while driving his new Lamborghini. Stuck in the middle of the city’s traffic, the opener spotted a supporter and responded with a thumbs-up.

The 38-year-old opener has been away from the field ever since the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). Having already retired from Tests and T20Is, Rohit has been spending his time away from cricket in Mumbai, often seen driving around in his luxury car. The sight of him cruising in his Lamborghini has drawn attention on more than one occasion with fans gathering to get a glimpse of the India captain.

Rohit Sharma is expected to return to action in October when Australia host India for a three-match ODI series. With the series being India’s first ODI assignment after the Champions Trophy 2025, all eyes will be on how the senior batter performs, keeping the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind.

Speculation Around Rohit Sharma’s ODI Future

Over the last few weeks, there have been murmurs about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s possible ODI retirement. Both senior players have been at the centre of discussions following India’s campaign at the Champions Trophy earlier this year. However, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has firmly dismissed such reports, making it clear that no retirement decision has been made.

"When did they retire? Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli both will still play ODIs, so if they are still playing, then why talk about farewell now? Why are you people worrying already? Our policy is very clear – BCCI never tells any player to retire. He has to take his own decision. He himself has to take this call," said Shukla as quoted.

Looking Ahead to India’s ODI Roadmap

With the next ODI World Cup scheduled in 2027, India’s selectors and team management are reportedly having doubts on Rohit's fitness. As per reports, he might play his last ODI series in Australia.

A few sources also suggest that Shubman Gill, who leads India in Tests and was made the T20I vice-captain ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, might soon take over the mantle in ODI cricket from Rohit.

Rohit has himself made it clear in the past that he wants to play the next ODI World Cup and it will be interesting to see how things unfold from here.
