India skipper Suryakumar Yadav has found himself at the center of a major controversy after the International Cricket Council (ICC) took note of his comments following India's commanding group-stage victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 tournament on September 14. The ICC confirmed that it is currently reviewing the complaint lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and a formal hearing may be initiated soon.
According to a Dainik Jagran report, match referee Richie Richardson sent an official email to the Indian team management in which he stated he had received two official complaints from the PCB regarding the Indian skipper's post-match presentation speech and remarks. Notably, Surya dedicated India's win on September 14 to the victims' families of the Pahalgam terror attack, which apparently did not go down too well with the PCB.
For the unversed, Pakistan captain Salman Agha did not attend the post-match conference after the game, with head coach Mike Hesson stating it was the team's reaction after India's handshake snub.
ICC indicates a probe against Suryakumar
According to the email, Richardson said that upon reviewing all evidence and statements submitted by the PCB, Surya's remarks have been deemed to potentially harm the harmony of the sport, and charges must be brought against the Indian leader.

"The ICC has asked me to handle two reports lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board regarding comments made by your captain, Suryakumar Yadav, during the presentation and post-match press conference after the India vs Pakistan match on September 14, 2025. After examining the full reports and reviewing the evidence, I have concluded that a charge should be brought against Suryakumar Yadav for conduct that brings the game into dispute by making inappropriate comments, which are detrimental to the interest of the game," the email reportedly said.
The match referee further stated that the India skipper has the option to either accept the charge or face a formal hearing, which will have the presence of an ICC match referee, a BCCI and a PCB representative, and Surya himself.
