Virender Sehwag’s son Aaryavir made a stunning debut in the ongoing Delhi Premier League 2025 for Central Delhi Kings, playing against East Delhi Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on 27 August.

He opened the innings and made an immediate impact, scoring 22 runs off 16 balls and taking the pacer and the spinners at ease. It was a cameo innings from him, but one that had a lot of flair and promise.

Making his debut, he was not subdued by the occasion. He scored just one run, facing just four balls in the first two overs. He then struck two boundaries against Indian pacer Navdeep Saini. He again hit him for a boundary through a lofted cover drive before creating room to dispatch another through the cover region.

He wanted to keep on batting with the same aggressive intent, hitting the 17-year-old left-arm spinner Rounak Waghela, hitting two successive boundaries in the fifth over. However, in a bid to keep up the scoring rate, Aaryavir perished in the same over.

It was a short innings, but the shots he played brought back memories of his father, Virender Sehwag in his prime. Sehwag redefined opening for India in international cricket with his aggressive batsmanship. He had a particular interest in hitting the spinners for sixes. The former Indian right-hander had a habit of starting his innings with a boundary. He famously hit a six to get to 300 runs against Pakistan in Multan in 2004.

His cameo gave his team a great start as they posted 155 runs in their innings on the back of Yugal Saini’s 32-ball 52. Chasing 156 runs to score, East Delhi Riders were bundled out for just 93 runs with Central Delhi pacer Money Grewal picking a fifer in the game.
