BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has been appointed as the ‘Acting President’ following Roger Binny’s spet down as the BCCI President ahead of Asia Cup 2025, as per reports in Dainik Jagran.

Rajeeev Shukla will be holding the decisive post until the next elections with the Indian team venturing into an important tournament next month. Meanwhile, Shukla has been serving as BCCI’s Vice-President since 2020. He was reelected for that post in 2022. He previously served as the IPL commissioner from 2011 to 2017.

The report further said that Roger Binny had to step down based on an age-restricted rule. The new elections will also be held under the current rules, with the age limit for the contenders being set at a maximum of 70 years. That was one of the key factors behind Binny’s resignation. Despite the passage of the National Sports Governance Law, the BCCI will still have to conduct its Annual General Meeting and elections next month, as the law has not yet been notified.

Roger Binny Succeeded Sourav Ganguly As BCCI President In 2022

Binny succeeded former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly as BCCI President in October 2022 and is currently aging 70. Under the new laws, the state associations will also function under the new rule following Roger Binny’s resignation. The report further said that it will require another three to four months for the new law to come into effect and the elections cannot be postponed for that long.

“If the BCCI President had to step down due to the age cap, state associations must follow the same rule” a source from the publication said.

Based on the Supreme Court based Lodha Committee, the BCCI President cannot be above 70 years of age. However, the latest National Sports Governance Bill 2025 has raised the age cap to 75 for all National State Federations. BCCI Looking For New Sponsors

As per reports in Dainik Jagran, the BCCI’s Apex Council met under Shukla’s leadership earlier this week to discuss key matters, including India’s next sponsors after Dream11’s permanent ban. BCCI are ideally running out of time to seek their next sponsors with the Asia Cup starting from September 9.

“There are less than two weeks left. We are doing our best, but the tender process and legal formalities take time. Our priority is to lock in a sponsor for the long term, not just for the Asia Cup” sources close to the publication said.
