Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian skipper and the former BCCI President, has given his first reactions to possibly becoming the head coach of the Indian team in the future.
Ganguly retired from international cricket in 2008 and since then played the IPL for a few seasons. He was then appointed as the President of the BCCI from 2019 to 2022.
Currently, Sourav Ganguly is associated with the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Sourav Ganguly is the Director of Cricket at JSW Sports, overseeing all cricketing operations for Delhi Capitals. While he was previously involved with Delhi Capitals as an advisor and Director of Cricket, his current role focuses on strategic oversight across various teams under the JSW Sports banner.Â

Speaking to PTI in an exclusive interview, he expressed his interest in becoming the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Ganguly is among the most successful Indian captains and a figure who is looked upto with great respect within Indian cricket circles.
Ganguly praised Gautam Gambhir for his stint as the head coach of the Indian team so far. Gambhir's highlight was winning the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
“Gautam (Gambhir) is doing a good job. He started off a little slow, losing to Australia and New Zealand, but he picked up with the Champions Trophy. This is going to be a big series (vs England). I haven’t seen him from very close in this role, but I know he is very passionate... He’s very straightforward, he sees things clearly, and he’s very open about what he feels, about the team, players, people, everything," Ganguly said.
The former Indian skipper then spoke about his desire to become the head coach of the Indian team. He did not give a direct response to this query.
“I never really thought about it because I got into different roles. I finished (competitive cricket) in 2013 and then became Board (BCCI) president. “We’ll see what the future holds. I’m just 50 (53), so let’s see what happens. I’m open to it. We’ll see where it goes," Ganguly said as quoted by PTI.
Ganguly Calls For Patience With Gambhir
Ganguly concluded by saying that the Indian cricket fans will need to be patient with Gautam Gambhir while adding that the ongoing England tour will be an important one for him.
